24-10-23 Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health Gaza Dr. Ashraf Al-Qudra

🚨A bloody night that the Gaza Strip experienced during the past hours, its bitterness was felt by all residential communities, as the Israeli occupation admitted to targeting 400 areas in the Gaza Strip.
🚨The Israeli occupation committed 47 massacres in the past hours, claiming 704 martyrs, which is the largest number of massacres since the start of the Israeli aggression.
🚨The Israeli occupation’s massacres against families in the past hours killed 305 children, 173 women, and 78 elderly people.
🚨The massacres committed by the Israeli occupation against families amounted to 644 massacres, claiming the lives of 4,292 martyrs, the largest number of whom are still under the rubble.
🚨The total number of victims of the Israeli aggression since the start of the aggression on Gaza reached 5,791 martyrs, including 2,360 children, 1,292 women, and 295 elderly people, in addition to 16,297 citizens suffering various injuries.
🚨70% of the victims are children, women and the elderly, and we received 1,550 reports of missing persons still under the rubble, including 870 children.
🚨Israeli violations against the health system led to the death of 65 medical staff and the destruction of 25 ambulances and putting them out of service
🚨We confirm that 12 hospitals and 32 health centers are out of service, and we fear that more will be out of service in the coming hours due to targeting and running out of fuel
🚨The Ministry of Health announces the complete collapse of hospitals in the Gaza Strip
🚨Hospital doors remaining open does not mean that they are providing service to the flood of wounded people flowing into them
🚨Hundreds of cases are delayed in arriving to operating rooms for several days due to the enormous pressure of serious and complex injuries
🚨Medical teams differentiate between cases to try to save any life, and critical cases are increasing.
🚨Hundreds of cases are lying on the ground without even simple medical intervention due to the lack of capabilities and lack of personnel
🚨The mechanism for bringing in medical aid is fragile and the collapsed hospitals have not been helped until this moment
🚨We call on all parties to ensure the flow of medical aid according to hospital priorities to save the wounded

🚨We call on the international community to quickly supply hospitals with fuel to save thousands of wounded and sick people.

🚨* We call on the Arab Republic of Egypt to open the Rafah land crossing and ensure the flow of medical aid and fuel and the exit of the wounded and sick.
🚨We call on all countries of the world to send specialized medical delegations to rescue those wounded in the Israeli aggression.
🚨We call on all retired colleagues and volunteers from all specialties to join hospitals immediately.
🚨Medical teams find it extremely difficult to deal with burn injuries and the increasing skin melting of those wounded in the Israeli aggression

Just now Israel bombed Al-Ahli Baptist hospital in Gaza estimated >500
killed (patients, doctors, visitors etc). This followed the bombing of
another Anglican Hospital in Gaza. !!!!  Aided by western governments, the
wanton Israeli destruction continues: of civilian buildings, attacks on
hospitals (four hospitals so far) and medical personnel, destroying
universities,  targeting civil defense teams/first responders including
ambulances, wiping out whole families, and denying people water, medicine,
food, electricity, and fuel.Thousands of tonnes of bombs were dropped on
heavily populated areas leveling whole neighborhoods: 3500-5000 Palestinian
killed (number uncertain because of those under rubble of flattened
neighborhoods) and over 10,000 injured. Tens of thousands will die soon
of deprivation and lack of medical care (e.g. thousands on
kidney dialysis). Even Raz Segal Israeli historian, professor of Holocaust
and genocide studies at Stockton University says it is “A Textbook Case of
Genocide: Israel has been explicit about what it’s carrying out in Gaza.
Why isn’t the world listening?”
https://www.democracynow.org/2023/10/16/raz_segal_textbook_case_of_genocide
Why indeed the silence?????????????????????????????????So far, many governments are acting spineless and subservient to US/Israeli
governments (themselves losing credibility among their own people). US
War-monger-in-chief Biden is going to meet tomorrow with the Palestinian
President (term expired 11 years ago), Jordan’s king, and the Egyptian
President. Shame on all four of them for aiding and abetting
murder/genocide. Even Arab and Islamic countries which have relations with
Israel have not expelled  “Israeli” ambassadors. Columbia (thankfully)
did.  More countries must follow suit (and also deal with Israel’s partner
in crime, the USA!). Enough is enough. Estimated 1500 children murdered in
10 days (many still under the rubble).

Here were my predictions for this terrible year 2023 (sadly much of it came
true)
https://popular-resistance.blogspot.com/2022/12/political-prediction-for-2023.html
and even 20 years ago, I wrote a book explaining how to get out of this
mess created by Zionism and predicting that unless human rights are
centralized, endless wars will reslt that impact the whole world (not just
Palestine). The book Sharing the Land of Canaan: Human Rights and the
Israeli-Palestinian Struggle” can be read here:
http://qumsiyeh.org/sharingthelandofcanaan/

A group of young Palestinian activists just set up a webpage
http://ongaza.org <http://ongaza.org/faq> being circulated on social media
to answer questions like: Isn’t Israel defending itself? What about
international law? US and Arab countries? Do the Palestinians have a fair
chance to get their reality to the world? Where can I get real information?
They answer with useful links/resources and actions that you can do for
peace and justice and hoping that this will stay even if they will be gone:
http://ongaza.org <http://ongaza.org/faq>

Now I do want to say something I said before many times over the past 40
years. There is no win-lose or lose-win scenario here. There is only 1) a
lose-lose scenario which is the destruction of 7.2 million Palestinians and
7 million Israelis living between the river and the sea under Zionist
hegemony OR 2) a win-win situation of stopping 75 year old oppression and
implementing justice (human rights, secular democratic state, equality)
based on international law including UNGA resolution 194 for return of
refugees. Yet, the immediate action is to stop the genocide because every
day creates more killings and millions will become radicalized. (we saw the
murder of a 6 year old Palestinian in Illinois yesterday).

17/10/23

Sympathy with victims and knowledge are not sufficient..Action is the best antidote to despair.
Please act. There are actions listed in this page http://ongaza.org and actions listed on my website http://qumsiyeh.org/whatyoucando/ PLEASE act in your own capacity but do go out in the streets today (Wednesday) to demand an end to the genocide committed by Israel aided and abetted by US and Werstern governments.
Small correction/addition to my last email: the hospital that Israel targeted massacring >500 civilians (most children) is Al-Ahli hospital which was first established by the Church Mission Society of the Church of England, managed between 1954 and 1982 by the Medical Mission of the Southern Baptist Church, and since 1980 was run by the Episcopal Church in Jerusalem (see https://afedj.org/institution/ahli-arab-hospital-gaza-city/). Most of the families murdered  are those who came to the area in front of the hospital thinking it was safer there since for 140 years it was a model of Christian-Muslim coexistence in Gaza.  The images of body parts scattered even a hundred meter away from the site of the Israeli attack are so horrific and beyond description. But even more horrific was that even this incident did not stop the carnage. Israel continued its onslaught against the civilians of Gaza. Israel continues its onslaught on truth and spend billions on propaganda and media manipulation (much of it comes from tax-deductible donations and direct aid from the USA).
Some disgusting western (Zionist) media thus still parrot Zionist lies or give them the benefit of the doubt!  Millions around the world are stunned at the depth of depravity of targeting even one of the last remaining bakeries after targeting several hospitals, residential areas, schools, universities, ambulances etc. Denying food, water, and medicine alone should be sufficient to expel Israeli ambassadors from every country on earth. Israel continues this and the bombing of civilians relentlessly. But demonstrations around the world grew.
As I wrote before, pleading to the US dominated western world to accept international law and international humanitarian law is not useful. They are intentionally destroying such law at the altar of the Golden Calf of Zionism. But now the game is up. Since the Nazi era ended, deliberate targeting of civilians was practiced by the US in Vietnam, Iraq and elsewhere (Martin Luther King said that the US is the biggest purveyor of violence in the world). In 2023 (pivotal year), civilized and decent people and governments everywhere must band together to stop Israel and its US mentor and benefactor. The stakes are very high. If Israel succeeds then other ruthless regimes will be encouraged to also get their way by might of arms and ignore international law.
There should be no ‘compromise’ that allows Israel to continue its occupation and apartheid policies in Palestine. A “cease-fire”  and having other countries donate to rebuild some parts of the damage happened repeatedly in the past as a face-saving measure. It is like having a rapist stop for a while, treat the victim briefly and then allow the rapist to resume.  Apartheid, colonization, siege, oppression continued after previous onslaughts  (2008, 2014, 2021). Now, there MUST be a different outcome if nothing else because of the scale of the devastation of Gaza and the vulgarity and open statements by Israeli leaders saying they intend to wipe and punish the population (the “human animals” in the words of the Israeli minister of war and “no innocent civilians” in the words of the Israeli president).
Again condemnations, showing concern, and prayers are not sufficient. Actions to hold the genocidal criminals accountable are needed NOW. See http://ongaza.org
Demand the expulsion the Israeli ambassadors  from your countries.(and the US ambassadors if they do not stop funding and arming the criminals)
Please join the struggle for ending apartheid/colonialism to build a better society (see my book “Sharing the Land of Canaan” available online at http://qumsiyeh.org/sharingthelandofcanaan/)

Healthcare Worker Solidarity Statement with Palestine

We are sharing this statement from healthcare workers in solidarity with Palestine. Please sign and share.

Of note, the Al Ahli Baptist Hospital in the center of Gaza City was just bombed with 500 estimated dead.

tinyurl.com/NYCHCW4Palestine

This statement was drafted by an ad hoc group of rank-and-file healthcare workers in New York City. Fellow healthcare workers, unions, union caucuses, volunteers, students, and organizations should feel free to sign on and share.

10/16/23 Urgent Update from JVP Health Advisory Committee Here

10/17/23 Healthcare Workers Against Palestinian Genocide” has a letter and sign on as well.  Please see and sign if in agreement.

Words cannot express the devastation and despair we feel for the people of Gaza. Our hearts break for the critically ill patients with dwindling access to oxygen, electricity, clean water, and other basic necessities we take for granted as healthcare workers in the United States. Our hearts break for the tiny neonates whose life-sustaining equipment will fail if fuel runs out, and for the injured children and elders languishing in crowded and under-resourced emergency departments. Our hearts break for the grieving families who are unable to properly honor their dead due to the sheer volume of casualties..

Our hearts also break for the Israelis who were killed or injured during the horrific Hamas attacks. We hope all survivors receive the top tier medical care for which Israel is renowned. We mourn that the distance of a few miles means the difference between high quality care and the dire conditions faced by Gazan healthcare workers and patients. We refuse to believe that one person’s life is more valuable than another’s, or that nationality should determine who deserves to live or die.

As we care for our patients in well-lit healthcare facilities, surrounded by the buzz of life-saving monitors and machines, we are acutely aware that thousands of Gazans are facing homelessness, injury, illness, and death as a result of both Israel’s airstrikes and its deadly siege. These circumstances are compounded by the 16-year blockade that has left Gaza destitute and isolated.

As US healthcare workers, we vowed to protect life. Our professional ethics and our humanity require us to advocate for the just provision of medical care. It is in this spirit that we publicly demand an end to the US-backed Israeli Defense Force campaign targeting residential neighborhoods, schools, places of worship, healthcare facilities, and other civilian targets. We also demand an end to the blockade preventing humanitarian aid, medical supplies, and healthcare workers from entering Gaza.

Finally, we demand that our own healthcare institutions take a stand whenever healthcare workers, hospitals, and patients are under attack. Several US healthcare systems have thus far only acknowledged the suffering of Israelis in their public statements and memos to employees. We call upon these healthcare systems to recognize the humanity and the suffering of Palestinian civilians, and support international organizations and frontline workers struggling to provide urgently-needed healthcare in Gaza.

UN expert urges immediate ceasefire and humanitarian access as Gaza health sector reaches “breaking point”

GENEVA (17 October 2023) – Continuing violent displacement and threats of further attacks on the besieged Gaza Strip pose a major public health risk and emergency, a UN expert said today after at least 12 health workers were killed and 24 Gazan health facilities were affected since the escalation of violence in the region.

“All parties to the conflict and their international partners must ensure swift and unimpeded access to essential humanitarian supplies, including food, water and medicine, fuel, and electricity,” said Tlaleng Mofokeng, the UN Special Rapporteur on the right to health. “Gaza’s medical infrastructure has been irreparably damaged and healthcare providers are working in a dire situation with limited access to medical supplies and conditions that do not allow them to provide timely and quality healthcare,” Mofokeng said.

“Humanitarian workers, physicians, civil society, human rights organisations and journalists continue to work in the region while under bombardment themselves,” the expert said.

The World Health Organization has documented more than 111 attacks on health care services in the occupied Palestinian territory, including 48 attacks on the Gaza Strip which resulted in the death of at least 12 health workers.

Mofokeng said that Israel was preventing the entry of essential supplies into Gaza, including food, water, fuel, medicines, medical disposables and equipment. “The Gaza Strip is experiencing continuous bombardment and massive devastation,” she said. “The health sector in the enclave is at a breaking point.”

Mofokeng called on the international community to intervene immediately to prevent the escalation of conflict and protect and respect the right to health of all, by demanding access through humanitarian corridors, protection of the healthcare infrastructure and health workers. Palestinian families require urgent supplies of food, water, shelter, fuel, emergency health care, psychosocial support and psychological first aid, the expert said.

The latest escalation and display of aggression in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territory must not be de-contextualized, the expert urged. It represents a crushing moment of ongoing gross structural, systemic and sustained violence experienced by Palestinians every day since the occupation, she said. “I call for an immediate ceasefire and for Member States to stop beating the drums of war,” Mofokeng said.

“The Palestinian people have been displaced for more than 75 years. The occupied Palestinian territory has been under military occupation for more than 56 years – an occupation entailing a lack of accountability, ongoing displacement and demolition, movement restrictions, and systematic racial discrimination,” she said.

The Special Rapporteur recalled that UN Member States had reaffirmed their commitment to upholding the sovereign equality of all States and respect for their territorial integrity and political independence, recognising 2019 to 2028 as the “Nelson Mandela Decade of Peace.” The declaration supports a comprehensive approach to sustaining peace by preventing conflict and addressing its root causes, she said.

“Steps to realising the right to self-determination of Palestinians is linked to their dignity and sovereignty,” Mofokeng said. “You cannot extinguish the human desire for freedom.”

Ms. Tlaleng Mofokeng, Special Rapporteur on the right of everyone to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health.

Special Rapporteurs are part of what is known as the Special Procedures of the Human Rights Council.
