IOF Commit 180 Human Rights Violations against Gaza’s Palestinian Fishermen

So far in 2023, Israeli occupation forces IOF carried out 180 human rights violations against Palestinian fishermen while fishing offshore the Gaza Strip, during which 19 Palestinian have been detained, 11 others have been injured, and 6 fishing boats have been stolen, Al Mezan Center for Human Rights reported today Monday, July 24, 2023.

the Israeli occupation continues preventing the entry of the necessary fishing equipment the Palestinian fishermen need as a part of the 16-year-old suffocating Israeli blockade imposed on Gaza, Al Mezan indicated.

“Al Mezan’s documentation shows that, since the beginning of 2023, the Israeli navy has carried out 180 attacks against Palestinian fishermen, injuring 11, arbitrarily arresting 19, and confiscating six fishing boats. It must also be noted that Israeli authorities still ban the entry of necessary fishing materials and equipment to the Strip as part of their settler-colonial closure against Gaza,” it added.

It strongly condemned the systematic Israeli violations and attacks on Palestinian fishermen, including firing at Palestinians, detaining and injuring them, and stealing their boats and fishing equipment.

Al Mezan Center called on the international community to immediately act and break the suffocating blockade imposed on 2.3 million Palestinian citizens living in Gaza, stop Israeli human rights violations against the Palestinians, and hold the Israeli occupation accountable for its crimes which are against international law
