The consequences of this blockade touch every aspect of life, from basic necessities to education, healthcare, and mental well-being.
Despite the hardships endured for 17 years, Gazans continue to hold onto hope, patience, and determination.
Humanitarian Crisis and Impact on Families:
Within Gaza’s prison walls, the siege has halted funding for food and cash assistance programs that support tens of thousands of impoverished Palestinian families.
Additionally, access to medical devices, pharmaceuticals, and medical consumables has been severely constrained.
More than 50% of families below the poverty line have struggled to receive adequate aid and services due to the blockade.
As a result, education, personal mobility, and healthcare have been severely affected, hindering the basic quality of life for Gazans.
Economic Devastation:
The siege has also taken a toll on the local economy, severely impacting business owners who cannot send out or receive commodities.
This has led to reduced employment opportunities and income for families and individuals.
Unemployment rates have reached a staggering 44.1%, leaving approximately 200,000 people without work.
Moreover, the decrease in exports and imports due to the siege has resulted in losses estimated at around ten million dollars, further exacerbating the economic hardships faced by Gazans.
Mental Health Struggles:
The blockade has had a profound impact on the mental health of Gazans, leading to increased stress, anxiety, and frustration among the population.
The United Nations estimates that a third of the Gaza Strip’s population needs psychosocial support to cope with the emotional toll of the ongoing crisis.
Reconstruction Challenges:
The siege has also left a significant financial gap in the reconstruction efforts, estimated at approximately 200 million dollars.
This amount includes 106 million dollars for partial damage and 94 million dollars for total damages, accumulated since the occupation aggression on Gaza Strip in 2014 and reaching its peak after the occupation aggression in 2022.
