11 luglio, Mohamud Abbas presidente dell'ANP, dell'OLP e leader di Fatah ha visitato Jenin
con una scorta di 1000 militari dell'Autorità nazionale. Nel frattempo gli israeliani stavano
effettuando un raid a Ramallah e in altri luoghi dell'area A.
Una tale dimostrazione di presenza a Jenin, incluso il primo ministro e altri maggiori di Fatah
e protetta dalle forze armate, non si è mai vista quando era il momento di difendere uno
qualsiasi dei villaggi e delle città dell'area A, sotto la giurisdizione dell'ANP, dagli attacchi
israeliani e dalle incursioni dei coloni, né si vedevano a proteggere le pacifiche
manifestazioni settimanali in vari villaggi minacciati, o in qualsiasi altra circostanza in cui
l’Autorità Nazionale avrebbe dovuto esercitare la sua autorità, come per legge e per accordi.
Eppure questo è solo un aspetto, anche se non irrilevante, di questa visita.
Altro fatto è che la visita è stata "imposta" alla gente di Jenin che aveva rifiutato i
rappresentanti "minori" ma comunque prestigiosi del governo dell'ANP solo pochi giorni
prima, in occasione dei funerali.
Ma il punto veramente sbalorditivo è ciò che Abbas ha detto in pubblico durante questa
visita. La mia sorpresa, poichél’ingenuità non si ferma mai, è stata tale che ho chiesto ai
palestinesi se Abbas avesse detto di più in arabo di quanto potessi trovare riportato in
inglese o francese. La risposta è stata "no".
Quindi, ha solo affermato chel’ANP è unito e rappresenta tutti i palestinesi, che realizzerà
uno stato e nessuna pressione esterna (presumibilmente da parte di Israele e di qualsiasi
altro paese) ostacolerà questo risultato. E ha lodato i martiri (he pero non erano da aiutare
in vita nella loro battaglia):”Siamo venuti a dire che siamo “;autorità, uno stato, una
legge… e taglieremo la mano che interferisce con l’unità e la sicurezza del nostro popolo
ha affermato.
Ognuna di queste affermazioni, pronunciate a voce alta, non è solo ridicola nel contesto, ma falsa e veramente ingannevole poiché non parla alle preoccupazioni del popolo della
Palestina e della diaspora. È probabile che aumentino solo la loro distanza da questo
“leader” autoconfermato e dal suo gruppo di potere.
Apparentemente non è stata fatta menzione di nessuna delle questioni rilevanti per le
persone sotto occupazione e apartheid da troppo tempo, come sulla protezione della
popolazione dalla devastazione dell’aumento della violenza su persone, abitazioni, proprietà
e terra, sulla domanda di autodeterminazione e di fermare il controllo generale delle loro
vite da parte di Israele, nessuna menzione della liberazione dei prigionieri, prima di tutto e
subito i detenuti amministrativi e i bambini e sul blocco del loro trasferimento in Israele,
nulla sulla resa amministrativa dell’ANP, nessuna prova è stata offerta di aver interrotto il
coordinamento militare e di intelligence con Israele, nessuna posizione e stata sulla
necessità di fermare il blocco di Gaza, e non è stata fatta menzione di una data per le
elezioni legislative e presidenziali nazionali, richieste da tutti i palestinesi di qualsiasi partitoe religione da almeno 10 anni, costantemente.
Ma la sfilata di Jenin non è stata solo un’altra farsa di Abbas e un altro abuso di posizione di potere per autopromuoversi (che comunque visti il curriculum el’età è di per sé unproblema serio), a quanto pare non è stato solo quello.
Perché nelle circostanze intorno all’attacco di Jenin del 5 luglio c’è stata la scelta da parte di Israele e dei paesi occidentali di "rivitalizzare e sostenere" l’ANP, impersonato da Abbas ed
"estendere il suo controllo, a tutti i TPO, e precisamente anche il suo ritorno a Gaza (1.2)
Ora questo è un piano delirante e poco rispettoso, che può solo far infuriare o deprimere, o
entrambe le cose, tutte le persone nei TPO. Ma questo è ciò che ha spinto Abbas a
presentarsi a Jenin, a quanto pare. E la prospettiva di gestire i fondi promessi per la sua
ricostruzione.
Delirante: tutti hanno testimoniato che l’ANP non ha i mezzi o le capacità o entrambi per
produrre alcun cambiamento positivo, se non nell’ottenere più aiuti di beneficenza o
nell'addestrare i suoi militari che non proteggono i palestinesi, e che percorre un percorso ideologico che non è condiviso dalla maggioranza delle persone.
Più rilevante, delirante e non rispettoso perché la resistenza, almeno dai tempi del marzo
del ritorno a Gaza e dell’intifada unitaria nel 2021, è il risultato di un processo ormai lungo di dialogo e confronto trai vari partiti e gruppi sociali e civili, che ha raggiunto una concordanza di tanti strumenti e di ogni generazione, di molteplici forme di azioni, incluso ma non limitato all’;uso della forza.
Delirante. non rispettosa erché questa resistenza ha preso l’iniziativa: include
l’apprendimento e l’esperienza dei palestinesi di tutti i partiti (inclusa parte di Fatah), gruppi e religioni (indipendentemente dal pregiudizio religioso di Israele e degli occidentali); ha dimostrato che”un’altra unità” è possibile e, in prospettiva, anche “un altro stato” diversoda quello progettato da Oslo e mai preso sul serio. Qui vale la pena ricordare che qualunquesia la propria opinione sulla sconfitta di Arafat, l’uomo è stato ucciso quando ha tentato dinon arrendersi. Abbas con le sue posizioni più concilianti è stato accolto da Israele edall’Occidente come suo sostituto e si è rivelata presto una buona scelta per loro, nel 2006,sciogliendo il parlamento eletto e non indicendo mai piu elezioni.
Possibile che Abbas sia davvero delirante nel pensare di poter governare di nuovo, dopo
anni di governo per decreto, senza un corpo legislativo attivo, senza uno straccio di
democrazia interna? Dopo anni di imposizione di costrizioni a Gaza e repressione dei suoi
concittadini in WB? Dopo una così stretta collaborazione di "sicurezza per Israele"? Dopo l’ulteriore invasione degli insediamenti e le restrizioni speciali su tutti gli aspetti della vita dei palestinesi?
Le delusioni appartengono agli uomini, ma non all’;intelligenza collettiva e quindi il suo piano sarà sconfitto, ma crea altri ostacoli e lavoro per i palestinesi.
Se questa visita segna qualcosa, segnala solo il tentativo di creare divisioni e l’ulteriore
contrasto ad ogni forma di resistenza in un momento della storia della Palestina in cui la sua esistenza è sul punto di essere cancellata come questione politica e come questione territoriale, come il diritto all’autonomia, alla dignità e alla libertà. Decine di enclaves
controllabili come Gaza perché richiuse ed etnicamente pure, di dimensioni minime
possibili, sono ciò che gli israeliani stanno tentando di ottenere, adesso e il più velocemente possibile, in assenza della possibilità di sbarazzarsi di tutto il popolo palestinese e in presenza del Palestinesi che prendono in mano la loro lotta.
Abbas non ha detto una parola su tutto ciò che è negli occhi, nella preoccupazione e dietro il martirio dei palestinesi a Jenin e altrove.

Abbas last step
On July 11th, Mohamud Abbas president of the ANP, of PLO and leader of Fatah has visited
Jenin with an escort of 1000 armed servicemen of the national Authority. Meanwhile Israeli
were doing a raid in Ramallah, and other places in area A.
Such a display of presence in Jenin including first Minister and other Fatah majors and
protected by armed forces have never been seen when the time was to defend any of the
villages and towns of area A, under ANP jurisdiction, from Israeli attacks and raids of
settlers, nor they were seen to protect the pacific weekly demonstrations in various
menaced villages, or in any other circumstance when the National Authority should have
exercised …its authority, as by law and agreements. Yet this is only one, though not
irrelevant, issue of this visit.
Another fact is that the visit was "forced" on Jenin's people who had rejected the "lesser"
but anyhow prestigious representatives of the ANP government only few days before, at the
time of the funerals.
But the truly astounding point is what Abbas said in public at this visit. My surprise, as
ingenuity never stops, was such that I asked to Palestinians if Abbas said more in Arabic than
I could find reported in English or French. The answer was "no".
So, it has only said that the ANP is united and represents all Palestinians, that it will achieve a
state and no external pressure (assumingly by Israel and any other country) will thwart this
achievement. And off course that the martyrs were to be lauded (not to be helped in life in
their battle, though): "We came to say that we are one authority, one state, one law… and we
will cut off the hand that tampers with the unity and security of our people," he said.
Each of these statements, vociferously spoken, is not only ridiculous in the context but false
and truly deceptive since they do not speak to the concerns of the people of Palestine and
of the diaspora. They are only likely to increase the distance of them from this self-
confirmed "leader" and its group of power.
No mention was apparently made about any of the issues relevant to people under
occupation and apartheid since too long, such as protecting the population from the
devastation of increase in violence on people, housing, properties and land, about the
demand for auto determination and of stop if the overall control of their lives by Israel, no
mention about the liberation of prisoners, first of all and immediately the administrative
detained and children and stop of their transfer in Israel, about the stop of ANP
administrative surrender, no proof was offered of having interrupted the military and
intelligence coordination with Israel, no position was taken on the need to to stop the
blockade of Gaza, and no mention was made of a date for national legislative and
presidential elections, required by all Palestinians of any party and religion since at least 10
years, consistently.
But the show in Jenin was not only another Abbas's charade and another abuse of position
of power to self-promote (which anyhow given the curriculum and the age is in itself a
serious problem), apparently was not only that.
Because in the circumstances around the Jenin attack on July 5 there has been the choice by
Israel and outspoken western countries (USA and EU) to "revitalize and support" the ANP,
personified by Abbas and "extend its control, to all the oPt, and namely also its return to
Gaza (1.2)
Now, this is a delusionary and not respectful plan, which can only infuriate or depress, or
both, all the people in the oPt. But this is what kicked Abbas to show up in Jenin, it seems.
And possibly the prospect of managing the funds promised for its reconstruction.
Delusionary: everybody has witness that the ANP does not have the means or capabilities or
both to produce any positive change, if not in obtaining more charity help or in training its
military that do not protect Palestinians, and that it goes along an ideological path which is
not shared by most of the people.
More relevant, it is delusionary because the resistance at least since the time of March of
return in Gaza and the unity intifada in 2021, is the result of a now long process of dialogue
and confrontation, which achieved a concordance of many tools and every generation, of
multiple forms of actions, including but not certainly limited to the use of force.
It is delusionary because this widespread resistance has taken the lead: it includes the
learning and experience of Palestinians from all party (including part of Fatah), groups and
religions (regardless of the religious prejudice of Israel and westerners); it has been showing
that "another unity" is possible and, prospectively, also "another state" different that what
Oslo designed and was never taken seriously. Here is worth remembering, that whatever
one's opinion of the defeat of Arafat, the man was killed when it attempted not to give all
up. Abbas with his more conciliatory positions was welcomed by Israel and the West as his
substitute and it proved soon a good choice for them, in 2006, by disbanding and elected
parliament.
It is possible that Abbas is really delusional in thinking he can rule again, after years of ruling
by decree, without a legislative body active, without a shred of internal democracy? After
years of imposing constrictions on Gaza and repression on its fellow citizens in WB? After
such a tight "security for Israel" collaboration? After the further encroachment of
settlements and special restrictions on all aspects of Palestinians; life?
Delusions belong to men, but not to collective intelligence and so, its plan will be defeated,
but creates other obstacles and work for the Palestinians.
If this visit signals anything it only signals the attempt to create divisions and the further
abandonment of all forms of resistance in a moment of the history of Palestine when its
existence is on the edge of being cancelled as political issue and as land issue, as to the right
to autonomy, dignity and freedom. Tens of enclaves controllable like Gaza because secluded
and ethnically pure, their size as minimal as possible, are what Israeli are attempting to
achieve, now and as fast as they can, in absence of the possibility of getting rid of all the
Palestinian people and in presence of them taking in their hands their struggle.
Abbas had not a word about any of this which is in the eyes and in the preoccupation and
behind the martyrdom of Palestinians in Jenin and elsewhere.

control of the Palestinian Authority security services over the territory (this was security collaboration
between the PA and the occupation state at its most obvious) and get the Palestinian people to turn against
the legitimate Palestinian resistance fighters.
